Abstract
This article explores the role of peace publishing in disseminating achievements in peace studies and advancing the culture of peace advocated by the United Nations. It examines the subtle yet profound influence of peace culture in shaping values, fostering social cohesion, and promoting global harmony. Focusing on book publishing as a principal medium of peace publishing, the article reviews China’s major initiatives since the early twenty-first century, including academic publication series, peace education publications, translations of classic works, and publications for general readership. In this study, “peace publishing” is defined as the systematic production, translation, dissemination, and circulation of knowledge, texts, and educational materials that explicitly aim to promote a culture of peace, non-violence, and intercultural understanding. Based on this analysis, the article identifies several challenges confronting the development of peace publishing in China, including the need to integrate publishing resources, strengthen research capacity in peace studies, cultivate specialised professionals, and expand platforms for international exchange and cooperation. It argues that Chinese peace publishing has contributed to the dissemination of a culture of peace and generated positive impacts on global peace, development, and shared prosperity. These efforts underscore both the contemporary significance and the practical value of peace publishing in addressing global challenges and advancing a shared future for humanity.
